Hi there

i tried to cancel a printer job and it wouldn't cancel so eventually tried to shut down, but now HP OfficeJet 250 printer is stuck on shutting down.  Have tried unplugging and plugging back in power cord - nothing.

Any help?

Thanks

Laura

@Laura111173, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 250 is stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen and power cycling hasn’t helped, try the following steps to reset the printer and clear any stuck processes:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This can help clear any temporary firmware glitches.

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet directly (avoid power strips).
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • If the printer doesn’t power on automatically, press the Power button.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Sometimes, a pending job or jam can cause shutdown issues.

  • Open all accessible panels and check for any paper jams or foreign objects.
  • Remove any stuck paper carefully.

3. Update Printer Firmware (if accessible)

If the printer starts up after the reset, it’s a good idea to update the firmware to prevent future issues.

If the issue persists even after these steps, then, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United Kingdom | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
