Completely frustrated with this. I am trying to setup scan to email on my Office jet 9010 but every time I click on test in the email configuration it shows - "SMTP email server error. The server might be down or busy. Try again later." I have successfully setup email alerts using the exact same smtp settings and credentials. I have tried the solutions I have found online being a power reset, setting a manual ip address for the printer and setting the DNS to google servers. I have download several pieces of HP bloatware to try and get help but none of it has worked. I have confirmed that the firmware is up to date. Has anyone successfully solved this issue?

Welcome to the HP Community --
You might have been caught by your email provider having disabled "Less Secure Apps" for third party software.
Scan-to-Email counts as "third party" apps.
If your email provider has disabled "Less Secure Apps" -- or, for any other reason -- requires "2-Step verification" to access your email,
(then)
When you are using "Scan to Email" / "Share" to Email
Create and assign an "App Password" in place of your regular email password.
Here you go...
Scan to Email
If your email provider is one that has locked "Less secure apps" access, then yes - you must change the password.
Set up your email security to use 2-Step verification > Create and use an App Password to be used with your "Scan to Email" Profile.
==============================
Scan to Email
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Scan > Scan to Email > Settings / Scan to Email Setup
Email Account Security - Two-Step Verification and Application Password
"Scan to Email", "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".
For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might -- or currently - require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.
Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email password in "third party" apps and software.
