HP Office Jet Pro 7740 was purchased 2021 and was used until 2023. It was placed into storage until now. After hooking it up, the warning message was that it was out of ink. I replaced all cartridges and now get a different error message, " There is a problem with the supply system. Try replacing cartridge. If message reappears record message and contact HP".

Hi @Adenike-Ade,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is encountering an error message, " There is a problem with the supply system, issues after being in storage. Here’s a step-by-step approach you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that all cartridges are properly installed into their respective slots. Sometimes, cartridges may not be seated correctly, which can cause detection issues.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Confirm that the cartridges you replaced are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 model. Using incorrect or incompatible cartridges can trigger error messages.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and remove all cartridges. Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridges with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or debris. Also, clean the contacts inside the cartridge slots in the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 1-2 minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear out temporary errors.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and bugs that cause error messages.

Perform Print Head Cleaning:

  • Use the printer’s software interface (on the control panel or via HP’s printer management software on your computer) to perform a print head cleaning process. This can help resolve issues related to ink flow and print quality.
