Nice of you to send a fix to someone via PM, how about posting a fix on the forum where it may help more than one person?
This issue is ridiculous. Like many tech issues, apparently HP is simply ignoring this.

This is the "secret" message that was sent to me... did not help or even remotely solve the problem. Will never buy another HP product. Maybe this will help someone else:
Please take a moment to read HP’s Privacy Policy at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/privacy/ww-privacy.html
Here are the instructions on how to do a Partial and a Semi-Full Reset, that may or may not help with the false paper jam error message on your Officejet 8600.
I would suggest trying the Partial reset first, and if that doesn't seem to do the trick, then try the Semi-Full. Please know that these resets may delete all information you have programmed in the printer, and set it back to factory defaults.
If these steps do not work, you are looking at needing a new unit.
Reach HP's Technical Support at www.hp.com/contacthp/
- Partial Reset:
From the homescreen, select the bottom left corner icon (return arrow) 4 times, in sequence. The icon may not stay lit up and that is ok.
The Support Menu should now pop up, select it.
Press the right arrow to find Resets Menu, select it.
Select Partial Reset.
The printer will power down. Power it back on by the power button.
The printer is now reset.
- Semi-Full Reset:
From the homescreen, select the bottom left corner icon (return arrow) 4 times, in sequence. The icon may not stay lit up and that is ok.
The Support Menu should now pop up, select it.
Press the right arrow to find Resets Menu, select it.
Select Semi-Full Reset.
The printer will power down. Power it back on by the power button.
The printer is now reset.
Best wishes,

Back here again. Cleared problem with a reset, now it's acting up again. Whats' worse is it says its the rear paper handler but the only chance to clear the message comes after opening the ink access door.
HP, please don't call me 100 times like you did last time. It's not helpful.

This is the worst printr I have ever had. I have been working for over 1 1/2 years to try to get a fix for the paper jam. HP Sucks. I will never pruchase one of their products again. Their support is worse than having no support at all. On top of that I will have to pay $10 to dispose of it as then garbage collector will not take it.
Good By HP Definetly NOT GOOD BUY BY P.S. If you don't believe me check out About 100 complaints on the net. Aso the problem sems to be a carry over from a previous version which also had the same problem.

This is driving me nuts and very bad for any kind of efficiency. I inherited the printer when I took over clerking duties and have had this false paper jam happen numerous times, very frustrating when it happens. Please help!

Just give up and throw it in the garbage. I havew been trying to get a fix from HO for over a year. They suck. I wound uo buying a cheap cannon PIXMA for $45 AT Staples. Talk about VW? These guys are in the same catagory. This problem carried over from a previous model. You will NEVER get an answer from HP. They still keep sending me emails to say if a post like yours helped me. My Reply? YES It helped me remember to never buy an HP printer again.

I have the same problem. Have systematically gone through all the trouble shooting steps multiple times.
I should also mention I also get an improper shutdown message. It tells me I have improperly shut down the print and intimates I have unplugged the printer. It suggests to use the on button to on/off my printer. I ALWAYS use that button. The only time it has powered down is due to an electrical failure (but nothing recent). I Get this message every time I power on.
There are two things I could not successfully do from the troubleshooting steps:
1) I could not use the tool to automatically clean the printer head. That is because I cannot get around the paper jam error message. There are three options when this message appears: 1) Cancel (red x), 2) 'OK' , and 3) Show me. The only one of those three that appear to work is 'show me'. Once the show me automation is complete, I can sometimes get back to the home menu be pressing cancel or OK....but before I can page over using the white right (which is sometimes illuminated and sometime not) the jam error message reappears.
2) The second thing I could not successfully do a prinet status report. I cannot do it for the same reason.
You indicated to others that you would send a private message. Could you send it to me.

Throw it in the garbage. That's what it is. I have been trying to get a fix for well over a year. HP has this site but doesn't even read it. I resopnded to the last three pepole with this problems telling them the same thing, that I would never again buy a HP printer, and it is no use trying to call or email the company. My response from HP? Thew emailed me an award for answering three responses.
This company does not care about it's customers, especially the ones who purchased this printer. They had this problemmin the previous 4500 model and just passed it on tho the 4600.
I investigated a class action suite, but they are to no avail. Just go to google and put in complaints on this modle and see what you get. And then just consider it a learning experience and move on to another companys printer.

Yes, throw it in the garbage! Also, do not be fooled by the whole rack of HP printers at Costco. Costco is just not up to speed yet. Go all the way to the end of the rack and buy the Epson or whatever other brand there is. HP all-in-one printers are the worst.
I will say, however, that HP's old school simple laser printers are awesome. I am talking about the small ones that only print. I have a couple that are about 10 years old. Model number is Laserjet 1022N. They have never failed, even after some abuse. I am bringing this up to prove I am not just a troll.
