All of a sudden, the printer is not printing. Did not notify me that the blue cartridge was out of ink. When changed, still no printing.  What should I do?

Hi @caroljohns,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 is not printing properly and only produces slightly pink output, this indicates an issue with the color cartridges, particularly the blue (cyan) cartridge.

Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check Cartridge Status

  1. Check Ink Levels: On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the ink levels screen to check the status of each cartridge.
  2. Replace Low/Empty Cartridges: If any cartridge is low or empty, replace it with a new genuine HP cartridge.

Step 2: Perform a Printhead Cleaning

Use the Printer’s Built-In Utility:

  • From the printer’s control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
  • Select Printer Maintenance.
  • Choose Clean Printhead.

Run Multiple Cycles: If the print quality doesn’t improve after the first cleaning, run the cleaning cycle a few more times.

Step 3: Check for Cartridge Compatibility

  1. Verify Cartridges: Ensure that you are using the correct HP 902 or 902XL cartridges for your printer.
  2. Reinsert Cartridges: Remove the cartridges and then reinsert them to ensure they are seated correctly.

Step 4: Print a Diagnostic Page

  1. Print Quality Report: From the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup or Settings, then select Reports or Print Reports, and choose Print Quality Report.
  2. Analyze the Report: Check for any missing colors or streaks on the report.

Step 5: Align the Printer

  1. Align Printhead:
    • From the printer’s control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
    • Select Printer Maintenance.
    • Choose Align Printhead.

Step 6: Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Check for Updates:
    • Go to the HP support website.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

Step 7: Reset the Printer

  1. Reset to Factory Settings:
    • Turn on the printer and let it become idle.
    • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
    • Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.

Step 8: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Hard Reset:
    • Remove all cartridges from the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord while the printer is on.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
    • Reinsert the cartridges when prompted.

Step 9: Clean the Printhead Manually

    • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
    • Remove the printhead by lifting the latch handle.
