Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Officejet 3830 stopped printing in color suddenly. I did change the paper size because the printer was not recognizing the A5 size, so in settings I changed it prior to printing. Once this was done the printer would only print black and white.

I had to uninstall, powercycle both printer and laptop and add again for it to pick up color printing. I did notice that I could still do color printing from my phone app> There is brand new ink cartridges in, they are HP brand and compatible as I have instant ink, and there is NOT a setting in printer setting/ preferences to chose color printing over black and white. THIS IS NO OPTION WITH THIS PRINTER. Any work around? I just did a system update on it as well, issue persisted before and after update. Will the color preference change everytime I have to change paper size? Workaround? TIA for all thoughts.

Hi @NunezWB

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print in color from your Win 10 PC. I'd be happy to assist you. This seems like a compatibility issue between the printer driver and the latest Win 10 update. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
