HP OfficeJet 3831
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

my HP OfficeJet 3831 just wont print via PC. I tried it with different computers, on wired and wireless connection and nothing works. The weird thing is that the printer works perfectly fine when I try to print via my iPhone (wireless printing). I also tried using the HP Smart App, but that doesnt work either. The HP Smart App tells me that my printer is ready but in my PC settings it tells me that attention is required, even though everything should be fine.

I tried these steps:

- Factory resetting the printer

- Updating the printer

- Using wireless and wired connection

- Using the HP Smart App

- Deleting the printer completely from windows

- Setting the printer up in different ways (wired connection and setup via HP Smart)

The only thing that kinda helped was this youtube-video. It printed the file even though the printer was shown as "offline" in the selection menu on my computer. After that i tried to print it again and now I am stuck where it tells me that attention is required on my printer. If I repeat the steps in the youtube video it will work again (for just one file). But this is really impractical obviously.

I thank you very much for your help in advance. Maybe somebody has some ideas of how to fix it.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Let me know if this helps.
