Officejet 4630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I bought this officejet 4630 second hand and it says "cartridges cannot be used until enrolled in instant ink program"

Do I need to get the previous owner to unregister the printer before I buy some regular Retail 301 Cartridges or can I just buy the Retail 301 and just install them without de regstering the printer from the instant ink program? Will it work Ok and can you use non-HP carts in this printer?

Thanks!

Welcome to our humble abode, the family and tech-friendly house of HP Forums!

I'll be your host for the day, they call me the Riddle_Decipher.

Have you attempted to turn off the web services and attempt printing using non-HP Instant ink cartridges?

If not,  I recommend you click here to turn off the web service when done successfully, check if it works,
Meanwhile, here are a few things you may want to know about the HP Instant Ink account page before we get into the details of resolving your concern: Click here for FAQs.

Hi, I have turned off web services but it still says I cannot print with the existing cartridges. I do not want to buy new regular retail cartridges yet in case the printer will not work until it is de-registered from the instant ink program (as I do not have the previous owner's log in details)

All I need to know is will the printer work as a normal printer if I simply replace the instant ink carts with retail shop-bought carts and without de-registering the printer from the instant ink program?

Thanks

Welcome back! I will take this forward.

Since the previous owner had Instant Ink subscription, the cartridges installed on this printer is an Instant Ink Subscription cartridge. Once you remove web services from your printer, you will have to remove Instant Ink cartridges from the printer and install standard ink cartridges purchased from the store. Your printer will work without any issues.

You can inform the previous owner to return the Instant Ink cartridges to HP and he/she can do that by contacting HP.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

If this helps, mark this post as an accepted solution so that it can benefit others. 🙂

Cheers
