HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP OfficeJet 4655 printer's screen has been stuck on the HP logo and won't move on to show the menu. I've tried turning it off and back on, unplugging the power cord, phone line cable, USB cable for a full day, restarting the computer, running diagnostic tools from the HP Smart utility, Nothing works.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Elena0001,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 4655 is stuck in a boot loop, and since you've tried basic troubleshooting steps like power cycling and diagnostic tools, there are a few additional methods you can try:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the power cord while the printer is still on.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or power strips).
  • Turn on the printer and see if it progresses beyond the HP logo.

2. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Disconnect any connected cables, including USB, Ethernet, or phone lines, in case a peripheral device is causing the boot issue.
  • Inspect the printer for any visible paper jams or obstructions, as this can sometimes cause the system to halt during startup.

3. Update Firmware (if accessible) Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If your printer can eventually boot up, update the printer’s firmware. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.
  • If it remains stuck, you might need to update the firmware using a USB flash drive. Download the firmware from the HP website onto a computer and use the firmware utility.

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • If you can access the printer’s menu after a reset, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults to reset it to factory settings. This may clear any configuration issues.

5. Try HP Recovery Mode

  • Some HP printers have a Recovery Mode that allows you to reinstall firmware if the printer is stuck in a boot loop.
  • Steps (if applicable to your model):
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the Power and Resume (or Cancel) buttons together for about 10-15 seconds.
    • If the screen changes, follow any prompts to restore or reinstall the firmware.

6. Check Power Supply

  • Ensure that the printer is getting stable power. Faulty power adapters or fluctuating power can cause boot issues. Try plugging the printer into another outlet or using a different power cord if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
