After performing a Scan to Computer, the document is not stored to disk as a Popup with "Language Not Available" is shown.

It worked before updating the HP Printer Scanner Software to the latest version (using HP Easy Start installation)

Hi @MartinAhrer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Excellent description and a great diagnosis. It is greatly appreciated.

If your HP OfficeJet 8600 is not saving scanned documents as searchable PDFs with OCR (Optical Character Recognition), you can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Ensure HP Software is Installed Correctly

Make sure that the full feature software and drivers for your printer are installed on your computer. You can download them from the HP Support website.

2. Use the Correct Software

Use the HP Scan software that comes with the printer, as it includes OCR functionality.

  • Open HP Scan.
  • Select Scan and choose Document to File.
  • In the File Type dropdown menu, select PDF (searchable).

3. Update the Software

Ensure that your HP software is up to date. Sometimes, an outdated version might cause issues with OCR.

4. Configure OCR Settings

Check the OCR settings in the HP Scan software:

  • Open HP Scan.
  • Select Scan and choose Document to File.
  • In the Settings section, look for OCR Options.
  • Ensure that OCR is enabled and set to PDF (searchable).

Check HP Utility (Mac)

If you are using a Mac, ensure that the OCR settings are enabled in the HP Utility:

  • Open HP Utility.
  • Select Scan to Computer.
  • Ensure that Enable Scan to Computer is checked.
  • Under Scan Settings, ensure that Searchable PDF is selected.

6. Try Using HP Smart App

The HP Smart app can also be used for scanning and might provide better results with OCR:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store (Windows) or Mac App Store.
  • Open the HP Smart app and add your printer.
  • Select Scan and choose the appropriate settings, ensuring Searchable PDF is selected.

Third-Party OCR Software

If the HP software is not providing the desired results, consider using third-party OCR software such as Adobe Acrobat or other OCR tools that support searchable PDFs.

8. Reinstall the Software

If the issue persists, try reinstalling the HP software:

  • Uninstall the current HP software and drivers.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Download and install the latest full feature software and drivers from the HP Support website.

Scan Using HP Solution Center (Windows)

For older printers, you might still have access to the HP Solution Center, which has built-in OCR capabilities:

  • Open HP Solution Center.
  • Select Scan Document.
  • Choose Scan to PDF and ensure that the OCR option is selected.
  • Ensure that the scanned document has clear and legible text for the OCR to work effectively.
  • Some languages or fonts may not be supported by the OCR functionality.

If you've tried all these steps and still can't save searchable PDFs, there may be an issue with the OCR functionality of your HP software, or the software might not be fully compatible with your operating system version. In such cases, contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance
