My printer, that I just go replacement ink for, has shown, alternately, the following errors:

- a yellow light in the list of printers that says "Error, Default"
- that the printer is offline (it's not)
- that the ink/toner is low (I just replaced the cartridges)

@danlehner, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing multiple issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e, including:

  • A yellow "Error, Default" message in the printer list
  • The printer showing as offline
  • Low ink warnings despite recently replacing cartridges

Let’s walk through some steps to resolve these issues:

Fix the “Error, Default” and Offline Status

These errors often stem from communication issues between your printer and computer. Here's what to do:

Step-by-step:

Restart Devices

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from power.
  • Restart your computer and router.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check Network Connection

  • Ensure both your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings to confirm.

Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Download or open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to Settings > Diagnose & Fix and follow the prompts.

Set Printer as Default

  • On Windows:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right-click your printer > Set as default printer

Disable “Use Printer Offline”

  • In the same Devices and Printers window, right-click your printer > See what’s printing
  • Click Printer in the top menu and uncheck Use Printer Offline

Fix Ink/Toner Low Warning After Replacing Cartridges

This can happen if the cartridges weren’t recognized properly.

Try the following:

Remove and Reinsert Cartridges

  • Open the printer cover and gently remove each cartridge.
  • Reinsert them firmly until they click into place.

Check for Protective Tape

  • Ensure no orange tape or packaging is left on the cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Software & Drivers
  • Enter your printer model and install any available firmware updates.

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power on.
