HP OfficeJet Pro 6960
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good Evening, after having installed new update for my printer OfficeJet Pro 6960 I’m not able to install compatible cartridges. How can I fix the problem? Any possibility to get a new firmware update as the one release in the past that permitted to install no-HP cartridges again?

@Arci39, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge? Does the issue persist?

Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely 70% of refilled cartridges had some form of the reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.

Thank you 🙂

Thank you, I totally agree with you however I think that me and other consumers should have the possibility to choose which cartridge install. I have now purchased an original HP set of cartridges however if the issue will not be solved, i will switch to a new printer from different producer, considering that the cartridges are more expensive than the printer itself I will save money for sure. Hope to find your understanding.

I have a OfficeJet 6962 printer that is about one year old....I have purchased 2 different brand new (not RE manufactured) 902 xl black ink cartridges after a premature black ink cartridge failure. I have gone through all of the trouble shooting details and head cleaning and everything listed to troubleshoot; and have spent 6 hours trying to get my HP Officejet 6962 printer to print black ink. I know there is mention of a failure rate of 1 in 6 of RE manufactured ink cartridges. I would take that roughly 18% risk of failure, over 3 of 3 failure (100%) on BRAND NEW HP 902xl cartridges  purchased from the store. All of them don’t expire until 2021 or 2022. I have always purchased brand new ink cartridges.  HP needs to do a better job of making sure that the BRAND NEW cartridges work as opposed to stating how bad the failure rate of RE manufactured cartridges could potentially be for their customers.
