My printer was working fine until ink ran out and I replaced each ink cartridge. Tried to print a document and got the error message 0xc19a0003. I've tried turning it off and reconnecting to desktop but error message remains. I'm not sure how to get my computer to run the clean printhead function. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hi @MargaretEB

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 is experiencing a printhead issue after replacing the ink cartridges. Since it printed a test page fine, the error might be software-related rather than a hardware failure.

Here’s what you can try:

Run the Printhead Cleaning Function

  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  • Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Ink Cartridge Contacts

  • Open the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridges.
  • Reinsert the cartridges and ensure they are properly seated.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP’s support page and check for firmware updates here.
  • Install any available updates to ensure compatibility with new ink cartridges.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset and restart the printer.

I forgot to mention that the printer was able to print a a test page that looked fine. I just can't get it to print documents I send to the printer because of the error message.

Just wanted to let you know your solution worked! It took a while to find the printer maintenance settings on the actual printer (I couldn't find it at all on the HP Smart app), but once I did cleaning and aligning the printheads fixed the problem. I tru;y appreciate your detailed answer/solution to my issue.
