OfficeJet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.  I have an HP officejet pro 6978.  It recently started doing a thing, where I can only print if HP photo paper is selected.  It doesn't matter what paper is physically in the printer.  It will print blank pages, if I choose regular paper.  Doesn't matter if its a photo/text/whatever.  I have tried different brands of paper.  I have tried different brands of ink.  I am currently using legit HP ink.  I have upgraded the drivers.  I have upgraded the firmware.  I have gone thru all the diagnostics in the windows printer app.  I can only print text (or anything) if I manually select photo paper....otherwise I get blank pages every time.  When I select photo paper, it prints flawlessly, in high quality (photos and text).  Why will this darn thing only print if I select photo paper?  I am using windows 10.  Tried a different PC with windows 7.  Tried wireless, wired, and USB connections.  No matter what I do, this is what happens.  Please help!  Someone else has to have had this issue!

Hi @IIIQuaZIII

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
