HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Printer receives the files to be printed, but does not print them. It only says "Printing" on the Display without doing anything. Scanning works fine, but copying also does not work.

It worked fine yesterday morning and suddenly with the third file stopped printing.

Scanning works fine, but copying also does not work (but I can see the Layout printview on the display).

Ink and paper are fine. there are no documents in the queue.

Printer status report (started via HP Smart center) was printed. Test pages started form the laptop or printer are not printed.

Diagnoses says there are no problems.

Printer and laptops (tried printing form different laptops) have been re-started (also been taken from sockets) various times.

I tried to change to cable connection - but did not work.

Printer has also been set back to factory defaults, but without change.

I am running out of ideas what to do... Any suggestions?

Hi @Petra79

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying everything out so clearly—it’s clear you’ve already tried a ton of smart steps, and I can imagine how frustrating it is when the printer just sits there saying “Printing” without actually doing anything.

Let’s try a few deeper checks to help get your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 back in action. 🖨🔍

Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the printer and resolve any temporary glitches.

Check for Paper and Cartridges:

  • Ensure there is paper in the tray and it is properly aligned.
  • Check if the cartridges are correctly installed and have ink.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Open the printer queue on your computer by searching for "Devices and Printers."
  • Right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, select “See what’s printing,” and clear any pending jobs.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. Install them and see if this resolves the issue.

Check Connection:

  • If using Wi-Fi or LAN, ensure the printer is properly connected to the network.
  • For USB connections, ensure the cable is securely connected both on the printer and the computer.

Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

Factory Reset: If none of the above solutions work, you can try resetting the printer settings to default. However, be aware that this might erase custom settings and configurations.

Let me know how it goes—whether the printer finally wakes up or still plays hard to get. You’ve been incredibly persistent, and we’re close to cracking this! 💪😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Hawks_Eye,

See the answers to your tipps below:

Power Cycle the Printer: Of course done already - still not printing

Check for Paper and Cartridges: Both there and correctly inserted

Clear the Print Queue:Of course done already - still not printing

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Of course done already - still not printing

Check Connection: Wi-Fi is working fine (Scanning over Wi-Fi works fine)

Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool: Of course done already - says everything is working fine

Factory Reset: also done already - but still not printing

Any other ideas?

Regards,

Petra
