I see unresolved forum posts for this same issue from 3 years ago. I've worked in IT Support for 15 years, I've done all of the obvious things.

The printer stays stuck on the low ink notification screen with no solution except power cycling, which wastes ink, time, and my patience. Since we're roped into using only genuine ink now due to firmware updates, I expect this issue will remain unresolved forever, because it means more wasted ink $$$ for HP.

Prove me wrong.

Okay, I tried all of your steps exactly as suggested. Despite the low color cartridges printing fine without discoloration or streaking, the message will not go away and prevents doing anything except direct printing. Only replacing the cartridges that did not yet require replacement made the "suggestion" screen go away and allow full functionality, surprising no one at all.

My office has a Laserjet 4250DTN that refuses to die and hasn't needed anything more than minor maintenance in years. This Officejet Pro has been too many headaches and wasted ink.

Hi @Tim-228,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain on the printer.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that fixes the issue.

Hi Irwin6,

I've previously confirmed that I have the latest firmware. I've power cycled countless times, which I can only do by pulling the plug. No amount of holding the power button does anything while stuck on the low ink message. I haven't included the step of removing/reinserting the ink cartridges so I'll do that and report back.

Hi @Tim-228,

Happy to hear that the issue has been resolved. I appreciate your efforts in performing the steps to fix it.

If there is still a lot of ink in the cartridge and falls under the cartridge warranty. You can get it replaced.

This issue might require one-on-one interaction to get the cartridge replaced.
