It will not come on to the Main Menu Screen...

Hi @Paul7777777,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Blue Screen Error on HP OfficeJet Pro 8715!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to ensure any residual charge dissipates.
  • Plug the printer back directly into a wall outlet without a surge protector or extension cord.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Check for Hardware Errors:

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Ensure all ink cartridges are properly seated and the access door is closed.

Reset the Printer:

  • Disconnect the printer from all connected devices (USB cables, network connections).
  • Perform a hard reset by unplugging, waiting, and plugging back in as mentioned above.

Update Firmware:

  • If possible, try updating the printer firmware for any bug fixes or updates that might resolve startup issues. This requires the printer to be operable enough to access settings and connections.

I hope this helps.

Hello Kuroi Kenshi,

Thank you for your reply!

I have tried all that you suggested except for the FIRMWARE UPDATE.

The Printer won't boot to the point where I can get to the Menu screen...

It appears that it is trying to boot by first showing the "White Screen with HP Logo",

but then after about 10-15 seconds, the "Blue Screen with the B89FBF62" message comes on only.

The Ink Cartridges don't even move.

Nothing.

I checked for jams and all that I can do.

WHAT DOES THAT MESSAGE CODE MEAN ANYWAY??

HOW DO I UPDATE THE FIRMWARE??

CAN I GET PAST THIS BLUE SCREEN MESSAGE BY PRESSING ANYTHING WHILE IT IS TRYING TO BOOT UP (Kind of a "Safe Mode" so that I can update the Software or Firmware??

THANK YOU!!

Paul

@Paul7777777, My colleague @Kuroi_Kenshi is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

Thanks for following up—and I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see that blue screen again and again without any progress. You're definitely doing all the right things so far.

The error code B89FBF62 typically points to a firmware corruption issue—usually something deep inside the printer’s startup sequence. Since the printer isn’t even moving the cartridges or making the usual startup sounds, it’s likely stuck at a very early boot stage.

Unfortunately, there’s no Safe Mode or button combo to bypass this screen on the OfficeJet Pro 8715 series. And since it doesn’t boot past the logo screen, updating the firmware via normal methods isn't possible either.

But here’s what you can try:

USB Firmware Recovery (if available for your model)

HP sometimes provides a firmware recovery tool that works via USB.

You’d need the printer's firmware file and a USB connection to your PC.

If the printer enters a "Recovery Mode" (black screen with text or blinking light) automatically after startup, that’s a good sign it might be possible.

Unfortunately, if there's no response and the screen always goes straight to that blue error screen, the printer may need service.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey7886,

Thank you for your reply!

Please help...

How do I get my printer's "Firmware File", or this "Firmware recovery tool that works via USB" that you mention??

Would it be somewhere on the "Install CD" that came with the printer, and if so, how do I find it's exact location because I've been looking, but obviously I don't know exactly what I am looking for...?

Is there an active or valid link you could send me please?

(If so, please confirm the link works before sending).

If all this doesn't work, how do I find the nearest place for service?

My zip is 02451

Thank you!!
