HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

Using MS WORD and composing a letter, when I print an envelope using the MS WORD Mail feature, it properly shows the name and address; however, when I print the envelope, the top portion of the recipients name is cut off. Reprinting the envelope with the same address produces the same result, but darker due to double printing, but still the same cut off. I have rebooted the printer, and MS, but no difference.

Hi @OscarB2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the top portion is cut off while printing envelope.

Please try the below steps to resolve the issue.

1. Check Paper Settings:

  • Paper Size and Type: Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer driver match the actual paper loaded in the printer.
    • Go to Devices and Printers on your computer.
    • Right-click on your LaserJet Pro M102w and select Printing preferences.
    • Verify that the correct paper size is selected (e.g., A4, Letter).

2. Adjust Margins in Print Settings:

  • Application Settings: Check the margin settings in the application from which you are printing (e.g., Word, Adobe Acrobat).
    • Make sure the top margin is not set too high.
    • Try reducing the top margin to see if it resolves the issue.

3. Firmware and Driver Updates:

  • Firmware Update: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date.
    • Visit the HP Support page for your printer model.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates.
  • Driver Update: Similarly, make sure you have the latest printer driver installed.
    • On the same HP Support page, download and install the latest driver for your operating system.

4. Printer Calibration:

  • Manual Calibration: Calibrate your printer to ensure that it’s properly aligned.
    • Refer to your printer’s manual on how to perform a calibration.
    • You can often find this option in the printer’s menu under Maintenance or Tools.

5. Check Print Settings:

  • Scaling Options: Ensure that no scaling options are enabled that might affect the print layout.
    • In the print dialog box, look for options like Fit to Page or Scale to Fit and make sure they are configured correctly.

6. Inspect Physical Components:

  • Paper Guides: Check the paper guides in the input tray to make sure they are snug against the paper stack but not too tight.
  • Printer Head and Rollers: Clean the printer head and rollers to ensure there is no debris affecting paper feeding.

7. Test Different Applications:

  • Different Software: Try printing from different applications to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the printer settings or specific to a software application.

8. Reset Printer Settings:

  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can reset the printer to its factory settings.
    • Refer to the printer’s manual on how to perform a factory reset.
    • Note that this will erase any customized settings, so you may need to reconfigure your preferences afterwards.
