HP OfficeJet Pro 8740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 (serial number: CN67PC606G) keeps getting an error B83B6FDC  that can only be cleared by unplugging the printer.  It happens at random times but mostly when powering up from standby.  It is set up for home use and connected via WiFi.

***The printer has been RESET multiple times and latest firmware is installed (Firmware Version WEBPDLPP1N001.1726D.00) ***

1. What does the error mean?

2. How do I stop it?

NO GENERIC CUT & PATE RESPONSES PLEASE

So to get "easy and hassle free HP Support" I need to phone up? Seems like a hassle to me when they know what the error code is and refuse to tell me.

This is the response from HP.  What is even the point of these Support Forums?

Anyone know what error B83B6FDC is?  Obviously, I am not going to get support from HP.  I am thinking of taking the printer back and requesting a refund as it is defective.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Printer.  I understand that you are getting Error Code: B83B6FDC and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Perform a power reset on the printer.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

If your printer connected wirelesly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then update the printer firmware.

Click here and follow the steps to update the printer firmware.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Thank you for the response.

I can clear the error just by unplugging the power cable and reconnecting it. The firmware is the latest version.

The problem is the error keeps coming back at random times, mostly after the printer is woken from Standby.  It has also appeared while I was printing a 3-page document.  The error first appeared when I turned it on for the very first time so I know it is not me or my setup.

Do you know what B83B6FDC error means?  Do I need to return my printer for a refund?  It is a big printer and I don't want to lug it around the city for repairs.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

This could be a printer failure issue.

Perform a semi full reset on the printer.

Telling me to power-cycle the printer is not an acceptable solution.  The error keeps coming back.

RugbyFan_05 -- I share your frustration with HP, because I've also tried, with great frustration but no success, to get somebody at HP to explain to me what B83B6FDC means.

Someone at HP undoubtedly has a list of all such error and diagnostic codes. What puzzles me is why no one will tell you or me and anyone else what our problem code represents. Is there really some reason for this to be a deep, dark secret?
