HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer

I was using the Virtual Assistant to try to solve a cartridge issue, and it instructed that I needed to perform a reset on my printer. After turning it off. unplugging it's power source, and plugging it back in, the display gave a blue error code (B8077DF6) and the lights have all been blinking. I tried resetting again, but it did not fix the issue. It still gives the exact same error message. Virtual chat has been unable to identify the issue and directed me here. Could someone please help me troubleshoot?

Hi @Test5151

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The error code B8077DF6 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 printer indicates a potential issue that might require advanced troubleshooting steps.

Here are some recommendations based on common troubleshooting procedures from HP:

Reset the Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is turned on.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.

Remove and Reinsert Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer's access door and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their correct slots.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Remove any stuck paper from the paper path, trays, and cartridge area.

Check Power Source:

  • Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a power strip.
  • Try a different power outlet to rule out power source issues.

Update the firmware on an HP printer (If possible)

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Hi @Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for the response!

Reset the Printer - I tried resetting it, but unfortunately it didn't work. The error still persists when I plug it back into power.

Remove and Reinsert Ink Cartridges - The ink cartridges aren't sliding to the left when I open the access door, so I'm unsure how to remove them. There's not enough space between where they are currently on the side of the printer to get them out.

Check for Paper Jams - Checked and confirmed that there are no paper jams.

Check Power Source - Tried a couple different outlets and made sure I was connecting directly to them.

Update the firmware on an HP printer (If possible) - Because the printer can't make it through it's boot up cycle, I am not able to connect it to the internet. I think that means that I cannot update the firmware?

Unfortunately the printer still gives the error code, blue screen, and flashing lights when I plug it in.

Hi @Test5151,

Thank you for trying those steps and providing a clear update, that helps a lot.

Since the printer is not getting past its startup process, here are the next steps:

Try Booting Without Cartridges (If Accessible):

Since the carriage isn’t sliding:

Turn off the printer

Gently manually slide the carriage to the center if possible

Remove all cartridges and try powering it on without them

Let me know if the printer responds differently when started without cartridges.

Check for Faulty Power Adapter:

Try using a compatible power adapter (if available) or test your adapter with a multimeter.

Voltage irregularities can cause firmware crashes or boot errors

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (if detected via USB):

Try connecting the printer via USB to your PC while it's plugged in.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Even if the screen is blank, sometimes the software might detect it and offer advanced recovery tools.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,

Thanks for the reply!

I did try rebooting the printer both without the cartridges as well as the carrier itself. Unfortunately neither of these worked.
I didn't have another power adapter to try, but I do recognize that this could have been where the issue was located.

Ultimately I ended up recycling the printer. Thank you for trying to help.
