Hi @russ497 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 4500 is experiencing issues with feeding paper halfway and not printing, it could be due to various reasons, including both software and hardware issues. Here are troubleshooting steps you can try:

Hardware Troubleshooting:

Inspect Paper Tray:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray.
  • Check for any obstructions or debris in the paper path.

Check for Jammed Paper:

  • Look for any jammed paper inside the printer. If you find any, carefully remove it.

Clean Rollers:

  • Use a lint-free cloth and clean the rollers inside the printer. Dust and debris on the rollers can cause feeding issues.

Inspect for Foreign Objects:

  • Ensure there are no foreign objects (paper clips, small pieces of paper) inside the printer that might be hindering the paper path.

Reset Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary hardware glitches.

Software Troubleshooting:

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your Officejet 4500 model.

Check Print Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your computer and cancel any pending print jobs. Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues.

Restart Printer Spooler Service:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate the "Print Spooler" service, right-click on it, and select "Restart."

Try a Different Application:

  • Test the printer with different applications to rule out software-specific issues.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the official HP website. It can help identify and resolve common printing issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer drivers, restart your computer, and then reinstall the latest drivers downloaded from the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
