I have a 4630 that's connected to my Toshiba laptop wirelessly. Lately if I try to print more than one document at once there will be a 10-30 minute lag time between one document finishing and the next starting. After Document 1 finishes printing I will often receive an error message stating "Document 1 cannot print." I have tried clearing the print queue (doesn't work) and restarting the computer (the same problem happens again).

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand the printer is working slower than usual and came up with the error - "Document 1 cannot print",
No worries as I'd love to help, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:
Did you attempt to perform a hard reset of the printer?
Have you updated the drivers and upgraded the firmware of the printer? if not, please do it now.
If the issue persists, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Reset the printer
Resetting the printer can resolve some types of slow printing issues.
-
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
-
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Check the print driver settings
Check the print driver settings. Selecting certain paper types or printing in Best quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.
-
Search Windows for printers, and then click Devices and printers in the list of results.
-
Double-click the icon for your printer.
-
Double-click Set Preferences.

(by the end of this document, all the issues should be resolved)

I have tried both of the things you've suggested, and nothing helps. I've also gotten a new computer since the last time I wrote and the problem has persisted. I even tried plugging the printer into my laptop--not just going wireless--but the problem remains. My husband recently started printing wirelessly and he has the same problem from his end. So it seems like it really is a problem with the printer and not with any computer, but I don't know how to solve it!

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
That was quite a lot of time you've taken to get back to us, that said if you've performed all the steps exactly as mentioned in the article I had shared earlier, this could be a hardware malfunction and I recommend you Contact HP to have the printer either repaired/replaced:
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.
If I have helped you resolve the issue,
Feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon
Followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'
And Have a great day ahead!

I have the same printer and it does the exact same thing. I have had multiple computers as well, but nothing has fixed the problem. I print multiple times per day and often have to wait 2-3 hours for all of my documents to catch up and print.

Did you check the HP web site for your printer???

I finally called HP customer support and it turned out that it was a problem with the printer itself and could not be solved. Of course the printer was out of its warranty period, so even though the machine had been defective from the beginning I could not exchange it. I ended up having to buy a whole new printer.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
