I am using a Macbook Pro Version 10.13.1 with an HP Officejet 4630 series all-in-one printer. I've searched all over trying to find how to get the printer to print in Black Ink only. I've looked in the utilities option of the printer and found no option for that setting. From the research that I have done states that it is in the utilities section. To choose the option Black and Gray in utilities, and then there will be an option for Black Ink only. Which there isn't or I'm just looking in the wrong place. Need help figuring this out.

Hello, @CastilloH – Hope you are well 🙂

Going through your post, I see that you are facing issues while trying to change the print settings to print only in black ink with your Officejet printer.

Please follow the steps listed under “Color and black & white settings” here: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/ish_2281139-2041471-16

If the issue persists, then reset the print settings and then try changing the settings as suggested in the document:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
  • Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂
