I keep getting "Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge" error. I have tried everything. I have installed two different new HP ink cartridges. I have removed the cartridge, cleaned the leads with water and a microfiber cloth and plugged back in. This occasionally works when I print one page and then I get the same error again. Are these inkjet printers disposable? Should they only last long enough to cycle through one or two print cartridges?

I suggest you try updating the Firmware. You can refer to this Link:
