Somehow my HP Officejet 6100 printer is no longer working. I get a "Printer is in an error state" message when I bring up the HP Utility on my MB Pro. It was working fine before the Christmas holiday and then I kept getting a Paper Jam issue message when there was NO paper jam issue. I replaced 2 of the 4 ink cartridges.
Any help is appreciated in getting this trusty printer working again!
Thanks.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that you are getting "Printer is in an error state", I am glad to assist you.
I'd like to know the following to isolate the issue further-
1.) Are the printer and Mac connected to the same network?
2.) Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz? If yes, make sure the dual-band has different SSIDs for 2.4G and 5G networks.
3.) What is the distance between the router and the printer?
4.) Is there antivirus software installed on your Mac?
5.) Could you perform a ping test and let me know the results? Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.
Perform a ping test to check the connectivity
- Click Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
- type ping "IP address" and press enter
Wait until 10 pings have been performed and then press ctrl c on the keyboard and hit return.
The results will appear.
Share the ping test results.

My printer and router are connected to the same network.
The router is dual banded.
Distance is about 30 feet.
No antivirus installed on my MAC.
Tried to do the ping test but for some reason it did not work. The printer is now making a lot of noise when I turn it on as the ink cartridges move back and forth.
This is the error message that I am now getting.

Perform a power reset , Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
- Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
- Turn on the printer.
Update the printer firmware
