Officejet 7500A
Microsoft Windows XP

I have a HP Officejet 7500A Wide format printer that won't print anything with black ink.  It started with poor print quality and I tried the head cleaning options but was still poor quality black print.  I then removed the printhead and cleaned it, reinstalled it and then the printer wouldn't print anything at all in black.  After hard resetting the printer, installing a new print cartridge and new print head it still won't print anything in black.  When running the head cleaning process it doesn't print anything on the top of the page (all black of course) but the colors print across the bottom just fine.  This is the same as it was before and after the new cartrige and print head were installed. I'm baffled - can anyone help?

Hi! @ponyman12, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues printing in black from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

Have you installed full feature printer software?

Have you tried printing from a different application?

Check the ink level on your printer and replace the low ink cartridge.

Change the print settings to print with black ink only.

You might need to change your print settings every time you print.
   NOTE:
These steps vary by software, program, and operating system.
In your software application, click Print.
Select your printer from the list of available printers.
Click the option that opens the Printer Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this option might be called Printer Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
Click the Features tab, click the Grayscale drop-down menu, and then click Black Ink Only.
   NOTE:
To use even less black ink, select the Draft setting.
Click OK, and then click Print to start the print job.

Refer this article to know more information about color or black ink not printing.

Let me know if this helps!

Thank you for your help!!  While the grayscale setting was not the problem it helped to point me in the right direction.  I had tried changing the "Print in Grayscale"  setting from "Off" to "All Black Ink" but it didn't make a difference.  I then noticed that the "Print All Text in Black"  was set to "Disable".  I changed that setting to "Enable" and now it works!

I'm not sure if that is the right solution or, if it is, I have no idea how it would have been changed as I hadn't been into the advanced options menu any time recently.

At any rate, it seems to work now.  Let me know if there is something else that I should be looking for.

Thanks for the help!!

@ponyman12, It's great to hear from you again.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned after you changed the settings to Print All Text in Black you printer is printing in black.

I'm really glad to know that it worked. You don't have to worry you have made the right choice the selected the right option.

Since you printer is printer is printing in black only, you should be good to go.

Urgent help required

I am desperate at the moment.

I have a recurring problem with this printer.

I’ve Read through all the forums about this issue and applied all the solutions to no avail.

Colours print fine.

Black prints as a very light blue colour - in numerous applications including Photoshop & Word.

Cleaned & aligned print heads 1&2.

Paper size & media correct.

ONLY use genuine HP cartridges.

Inserted brand new cartridges all colours.

Windows 7 professional OS.

Print setting - best quality

Downloaded & Re-installed the printer with updated software.

Took the printer to HP repair centre about this issue recently and had to pay a fortune for a new print head.

Problem occurring again with almost NO printing done after the replacement! - HP repair centre only guarantees the work for 3 months which mean I will have to pay AGAIN for a new print head!!

Not only did the printer cost me a fortune, I have spare HP cartridges for it, and the repairs A) take too long B) costs too much.

Any help please?

I have the same problem as Honor Student. With one change.  I can print in colors not black.

I have a HP Officejet 7500A Wide format printer that won't print anything with black ink.  It started with poor print quality and I tried the head cleaning options but was still poor quality black print.  Did the Alignment as well.

I did all the suggestions and it still wont print anything in black.  I really dont want to remove the print head and clean it.

It was fine, I was gone for a week and now not printing.

What do you suggest to do.

This is very frustrating and these printers are so expensive.  I dont have a warranty any longer.

Would appreciate your suggestions.
