HP OfficeJet 7612

HP Officejet 7612 is stuck at error screen: 'One or more cartriges appear to be damaged'

I purchased new original HP cartriges.

I cleaned contacts on both ink cartridge and carriage

I tried removing all cartriges,

I tried inserting my empty hp original cartriges,

The printer screen is stuck at error screen: One or more cartriges appear to be damaged.

I cannot envoke any hidden menu reset, as it is stuck at error screen and does not get back to home screen.

Hi @awesome2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 7612 is stuck on the error screen "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged" despite trying new cartridges and cleaning contacts, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Verify Cartridge Contacts: Ensure that the contacts on the cartridges and the printhead are clean and free from any obstructions or residue.
  • Use Isopropyl Alcohol: Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

2. Reinstall Cartridges

  • Remove and Reinsert: Remove all cartridges and carefully reinstall them, ensuring each one clicks into place securely. Make sure to follow the instructions in your printer’s manual for proper cartridge installation.

3. Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect for Jams: Check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer that might be affecting the cartridge or printhead movement. Clear any jams you find.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer using the power button.
  2. Disconnect Power: Unplug the printer from the power source.
  3. Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect Power: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

5. Update or Reinstall Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve error messages. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your Officejet 7612.
  • Install Firmware: Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

6. Reset Printer Settings

Since you can't access the menu due to the error, this step might be more challenging. However, performing a hard reset or unplugging the printer for an extended period sometimes clears persistent errors. If you can get the printer to function even briefly, try accessing the printer settings to perform a factory reset.

7. Try Different Cartridges

  • Use Known Working Cartridges: If possible, test with a different set of known working cartridges, even if they are old. This helps determine if the issue is with the cartridges themselves.

8. Inspect the Printhead

  • Check for Damage: Look for any visible damage to the printhead. If the printhead is damaged, it may need to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
