When I turn on my printer, the scanner wakes up fine but when the printer cartridge holder tries to run back and forth it gets stuck and rattles furiously before the machine returns a blue screen 00759C98 error code.  I have tried resetting the machine a few times with no luck, the error just keeps occurring.  No paper is stuck in the machine.

 

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Premium is showing error code 00759C98 with the cartridge holder getting stuck and rattling, and resets haven’t resolved it. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this:

 

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall.

Wait 60–90 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

This ensures residual power is drained and may temporarily clear errors.

 

Inspect the Carriage Path

Open the printer and manually move the cartridge holder (with the printer off) along the track to check for obstructions.

Even small bits of debris, labels, or dried ink can prevent smooth movement.

 

Check Cartridges

Remove all cartridges and inspect them for damage, leaks, or misalignment.

Reinstall them one by one, ensuring each clicks firmly into place.

 

Check and Clean the Carriage Wheels & Rails

Using a lint-free cloth, gently clean the rails the carriage rides on.

Make sure the wheels and rails move freely and aren’t sticky with ink or dust.

 

Perform a Semi-Firmware Reset

With the printer on, press and hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds until it restarts.

This can sometimes clear mechanical errors stored in memory.

 

Test Without Cartridges

Power on the printer without cartridges to see if the carriage moves freely.

If it still sticks or rattles, the issue is likely mechanical rather than cartridge-related.

 

Firmware Update

If possible, check the printer’s firmware via HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server.

Install any available updates, as firmware can sometimes prevent the carriage from initializing correctly.
