I have an Office Jet Pro 6830.  I've read the reset instructions as well as the comments here.  I am locked out of my printer.  No matter what I do it says disabled by the system administrator.  Can someone please advise?

I have reinstalled the printer software also to no avail.  Thank you.

@wcw1,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding issues with being locked out because of an admin password. of the printer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try to restore networks on the printer?
  • Did you change your router or ISP?

For now, try these steps:

Please restore network settings to defaults on the printer from this user guide http://hp.care/2fsJppO and refer to pages 119 and 120 on how to do it.

  • Then from this link:http://hp.care/2ftyIU3  (HP Officejet 6810, 6820, 6830 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup) run the wireless setup and follow all the relevant steps and this should fix the issue.
  • Step 1: Prepare for installation
  • Step 2: Connect to the wireless network
  • Step 3: Download and install the printer software
  • Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

For further assistance, you could install the printer as a USB printer and change it to a wireless connection by following all the relevant steps from this link:

http://hp.care/2FESxE5  (HP Printers - Changing from a USB to a Wireless Connection)

  • if this does not work, I will send you a private message to perform a semi-full reset to factory settings and this will do the trick for you.
  • First, perform the semi-full reset and then use the wireless setup document to connect to the network and it should fix the issue.
  • Please check your forum private message box for a private message from me.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

I have an HP 6830 that is giving me the message that it is "locked by administrator".  Nothing works to get this unlocked!  I need to change the number for my fax and can't - nothing will allow me to change it!  Please help!!  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and it did not work.

Hi HP

Read all the above instructions.  No luck. I have a mac, the printer 6830 is administrator locked out.  Cannot 'restore' (gray) select says the feature has b een locked out by your administrator or the person who set up the printer.

Without using my mini mack with no available wires, how can we get this printer working again for my parents.

Please help
