HP Officejet Pro 6978
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I have a HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer that has been going offline by itself since I've bought it. It reconnects usually once I unplug it, leave it off for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. I have tried everything including deleting and reinstalling the printer, resetting my macbook printer system, restoring the printer to factory defaults, restoring router to factory defaults, using other devices such as iPhones, iPads, and windows PC's. Once it restarts from unplugging, it will usually be back online for some time. When it does appear offline, when I go to the screen, it shows that it is still connected to the internet without any issues. Please provide any advice or guidance to resolve this problem.

Thanks!

Have you tried a static IP?

Have you tried connecting it using a RJ45 ethernet cable?

If the firmware up to date on the 6978?

Cables work both Ethernet and USB.  But I would like for it to be wireless due to its location. It is up-to-date as well. I have not tried a static IP, do you mean for the printer only? How can I go about that?

HP Recommended

Yes printer only for the static IP.

You will find that option in the printer EWS.

Make sure to select a IP outside your DHCP range on the router.
