macOS 12.0 Monterey

Printer won‘t print, hangs at 0%.

Made factory reset, no change.

It prints internal stats, so no ink problem.

Any clue?

@Tom_Nei, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 is not printing and hangs at 0% with a “busy” status, even after a factory reset. Since it prints internal reports, we can rule out hardware and ink issues. Let’s try the following steps to resolve this:

Check Printer Connection

  • If you're using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer and Mac are on the same network.
  • If using USB, try a different port or cable.

Reset the Printing System on macOS

This clears old print queues and driver issues:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select “Reset printing system…”.
  3. Re-add your printer by clicking the “+” button.

Reinstall the HP Printer Driver

  1. Go to HP Support page
  2. Search for OfficeJet Pro 7720 and download the latest macOS 12 (Monterey) driver.
  3. Install and restart your Mac.

Use HP Smart App

Sometimes the HP Smart app handles print jobs better:

  • Download from the Mac App Store.
  • Add your printer and try printing from there.

Check for Print Queue Issues

  • Open Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click “Open Print Queue”.
  • Cancel any stuck jobs and try printing again.

Firmware Update

Outdated firmware can cause communication issues:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
