Well, I've gone from one problem to another. I'm trying to install a new HP Officejet Pro 8100 on
my HUSBAND'S new Dell Inspiron 660, running Windows 7 , 64 bit operating system.
The minute the HP software is installed, the printer works fine, but the computer keeps shutting down
and re-starting. It must be a software conflict of some kind? I've installed and uninstalled 3 times,
and the same thing happens every time. I've run a registry cleaner every time to clean out the
install files, but I've just had to uninstall the printer the 4th time, so as to keep his computer running.
Other than that, it's only 2 months old, and runs fine. I intend to call Dell support, but thought you
might have run up against this before.
Thanks so much

Ginny, on your husband's computer are you also setting it up with a USB? If so check the USB port on the computer you are plugging it into. Does the normal USB sybol (looks like a trident) have an "SS" or "3.0" next to it?
Like this:
If you can't see a symbol like that, can you see if the port itself is blue? Many new laptops have a new type of USB port that translates data in a way which causes an unusual confict within the operating system and cause symptoms similar to this. If you have a normal USB 2.0 port (with just the trident and no blue) I would recommend using that port .
Let me know if this helps!

Hi,
When you suggested a different USB port, it got me thinking about perhaps connecting
the printer a different way. I have a router, by which we share the internet, so I tried
the wireless connection, never having done that before (I'm 73 years old). It works
perfectly, and so far, so good. Everything has stayed running. I have a feeling you were
right. Thank you so much for all of your help.

I had the same problem, i.e. printing about 15mm over to the right on each page. Diagnostic pages and all other test pages were similar. Realignment page failed. The answer to the problem was simple - a sheet of paper had been trapped and carried over to the far right where it was hidden by the carriage. You may need to move the carriage over to the left manually with the power off to see it if you have a similar problem. Removing the paper cured the issue.

When you purchase a printer you expect not to spend hours trying everything under the sun to get it to work.
It is just a printer, you buy it and you expect it to work.
HP printers are becoming rubbish. I have two. One will only print a document one copy at a time.
The other offsets it from the top and cuts off the bottom. I think it is something to do with Microsoft Word documents with borders.
My previous printer wouldn't printout EXCEL sheets in portrait.
