A couple weeks ago my Officejet Pro 8100 printer started printing on its own at all hours of the day and night. It prints out full page color ads for "HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter." I never use it wirelessly, though, only connected via USB. It is not part of a network.
I woke up one morning to find about 50 pages printed out (and wasted) in full color. I disconnected it and reconnected the printer. I updated the driver. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Then I finally completely removed it from my system and reinstalled it WITHOUT any wireless printing capability.
I'm on a PC with Windows 7 64 bit. I've had the printer for a long time, since it was a new model, probably 6-8 years ago, at least. Until this issue it worked perfectly.
Now I keep the paper drawer open so it can't waste any more paper, but when I do print something, a bunch of HP ads print out first before what I want to print. If I go into Printers & Drivers, it says nothing is queued up to be printed, but I still "cancel all documents." Yet it keeps spitting out these full color HP Ads.
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Hi,
Amy you attach a sample picture of a printed document? to get an idea of any possible cause.
And to make sure, the Wireless Radio is Off with the blue wi-fi light off, and an ethernet cable is not plugged to the printer by any chance?

I scanned a copy of the ad the printer keeps printing, but I don't know how to attach it here.
There is no Ethernet cable plugged in to the printer. I do not see any Wireless Radio or blue WiFi light anywhere on my printer.
Do you know how I can upload a photo of the ad?
Thank you.
Sandy

Hi Sandy,
While replying a message you may either attach a file by clicking the Bottom attachment icon, as well you may click the Insert Photos icon at the top bar and upload a file from your device.
Here is a screenshot attached with both options marked:

Thanks for clarifying Sandy!
It is strange to see such a page printed automatically with a USB connection only.
Please ensure your printer firmware is up to date and check for any change:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJP8100_R1545A_R1547B.exe
If the same persists please make sure there is no ethernet cable connected to the back by any chance by mistake, which would be connected to the very top port at the back of the printer if exists,
As well press and hold both the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons on the printer for 3 seconds to restore the network settings, then ensure the wireless radio is off if it may start blinking.
Please let me know if any of these steps may help,
Shlomi

I did a completely fresh install after completely removing the printer from my computer last week. All the latest firmware, drivers, etc. were downloaded from HP's website. When installing I unchecked the ePrinter capability because I didn't want it.
The Ethernet and Wireless icons have never been lit since I've never used them, and no, there is no Ethernet cable attached, only the USB and power cables. Likewise the ePrint and Wireless buttons have never been on, either. The wireless button has never flashed, either.
I tried pushing the WiFi and Cancel buttons at the same time as you suggested but it just started trying to print again. When it finally stopped it turned itself off.
Maybe it did reset and will be OK. It's turned on so I will see if it tries to print anymore. I'll let you know either way.
By the way, I use Norton Internet Security and have tried manually scanning for viruses even though it updates and scans automatically. My computer is also an HP and I have run the HP diagnostics . It all says it's OK. Same with the printer troubleshooting button.
It's a mystery. like a ghost took up residence in my printer.
I'll keep you posted to see if the restore trick worked.
Thank you for your time and effort.

Well, it didn't take long for my printer to turn itself on and start printing out HP ads again. No buttons are lit up except the on/off button. It just printed out 3 pages before I could pull the paper tray out. But the printer motor is still trying.
Btw, I've many times tried canceling the print as it's happening with the "X button" and also the "cancel all documents" in Devices and Printers. It doesn't work because it indicates that no documents are even printing.

Could you please unplug the USB cable and check if it keeps printing a such or not?
