Hi @Scarecrow46sc,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When the power light on an HP Officejet Pro 8100 printer is blinking and the print head icon is showing, it typically indicates an issue with the printer's print head or an ink cartridge problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Check Ink Cartridges: Open the printer's access door and ensure that all ink cartridges are properly installed and seated securely. If any cartridge is empty or low on ink, replace it with a new one.
  • Clean Print Heads: If the print heads are clogged, it can cause printing problems. Most HP printers have a built-in tool for cleaning the print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings or maintenance menu. Run the print head cleaning utility to clear any clogs.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute or two, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and see if the issue persists.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, updating the printer's software can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Inspect for Jammed Paper: Check for any paper jams in the printer. Even a small piece of paper stuck in the paper path can cause issues. Remove any obstructions carefully.
  • Reset the Printer: Some printers can be reset to their default settings. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
