I am having the problem. I have not inserted anything into the document feeder in months, but am getting the false Document feeder jam message. I repeat, nothing has been put into the document feeder in months. Even so, I have checked all the compartments and found nothing. I have restarted the printer with no resolution of the false msg. Please advise.

The Document Feeder Jam false error is a known issue. My interactions with HP Support revealed that there is a "secret" factory reset sequecnce, which may help (it did not help in my case). [edit] Be aware that the reset will eliminate any setings you have, most notably wireless printing. If you are printing wirelessly from your computer or laptop, you can still do so through the Document Feeder Jam false error; you just can't scan or copy. Once you do the reset, if it doesn't clear the false error, you won't be able to get past the error to reconfiguer the printer for wireless printing. if you aer printing wirelessly, the reset turns the printer into a brick.
For me, the only way to clear the error was to disassemble the document feeder mechanism (a big undertaking) to expose the two optical slot sensors and the motor. With these exposed, I was able to clear the error, but I couldn't be bothered to reassemble the document feeder. The printer prints, scans and copies, but only single sheets on the glass for scan and copy. Not a great solution, but better than the final resolution from HP Support: "your printer is broken; you'll have to purchase a new one." I'll stay with my solution until the cartriges run dry, and then go get another printer. Probably not a HP, though...
Best of luck to you.

On the touchscreen, to the lower left of the display area, kinda below the "?" that is usually on in the dark area of the display, if you tap that location four times in sucession, it brings up a Support Menu, and you can navigate through the choices there.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
