I have not been able to print onto my Avery mailing labels without the design on each label being out of alignment. The text/image gets pushed higher on each row and aligns towards the right. I have tried changing the set up on my label, Microsoft Word and printer but have since read on the internet that this is a common problem with the 8700 series.

Has there been any solution?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Forums.

I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer and is unable to print properly on he Avery mailing labels without the design on each label out of alignment. You have done a remarkable job in troubleshooting this issue.

During my research, I found that this HP printer is not capable of printing Avery labels. However, you can try the following workaround.

First, please check the supported label sizes by the printer: (Source: https://hp.care/2BPSdzi)

If the Avery mailing label are of the supported paper size then you can follow the steps mentioned in "Create custom paper sizes in Windows" from this HP document: https://hp.care/2D9SWxa

Hope this information helps. Let me know how this pans out.

Cheers! 🙂

What labels does it print on?

I think the OP has a different question than the one you answered. It is not about paper size at all. I think there is a conflict of the type of paper (really slippery backing) and the way the 8700s work against gravity (or maybe it's the rollers). I  have an 8720. My 8600 series worked just fine till it finally died.

Either way - It would have been nice to know when I bought the printer that I would have trouble printing, literally, everything I have to print for my job! I'm now stuck with a useless printer and no paper that will work. Next poster is spot on. What DOES the 8700 series work with? I'll be sure to use it.

So - I just tried the same project with the same paper (Avery 5164) on an 8710 (which happens to be in the same office as me (thank goodness) and it worked just fine.

HP needs to recall the 8720s. This problem happens often enough to create great waste, even with regular paper. And please don't tell me to clean the rollers. This 8720 was brand new out of the box when the problem started.

The against-gravity push is the problem, I think. Who knows.
