HP OfficeJet Pro 8740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since updating to the current firmware WEBPDLPP1N001.1827B.00 this printer hangs whenever it is turned off (either via the power switch or via embeded web server) until the power plug is pulled. When will this be fixed HP?

Just noting for the benefit of other hapless HP customers who arrive here that this issue was finally confirmed by HP as a firmware bug 10 months after I reported it and finally corrected in Firmware OJP8730_8740_1919A.exe released on 10 June 2019 which can be downloaded at https://support.hp.com/au-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8740-all-in-one-printer-....

Maybe HP will listen to their customers ahead of their robotic customer service agents in Hyderabad in future. Although really not complaining as HP sent me a free replacement 6 months ago which of course demonstrated exactly the same issue and which has also been subsequently fixed by the firmware release.

@Correzpond

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

This hard reset process (which in fact I was doing since the printer would hang) did not work, however the partial reset process you described separtely in a PM using the Support Menu did. This is the solution I am accepting. Thanks.

This solution was temporary.  A week later exactly the same problem is evident.

Thanks but I'm not wasting more time on HP phone support for an issue that is evidently a bug in your firmware.

I've the same Problem. After upgrading the firmware to Version 1827B, the printer hangs always during shutdown. Either by pressing the power button or when automatic scheduling power down. Only unpluging the power cord helps. With the former firmware this problem didn't occur. When can we expect a correted firmwre?.

HP Recommended

Absolutely it's HP's firmware. And beware of PMs suggesting that you take the issue offline and waste hours on phone support troubleshooting an issue that is nothing to do with how you use the printer.
