HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

I have reinstalled the print heads twice to no avail. All print heads show sufficient ink levels to print. Trying to print black only. Cartridge was installed weeks ago and printed fine until today.

Hi @TC1944,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer suddenly stops printing black ink, even though the cartridge is full and previously worked fine. Let’s walk through a comprehensive fix that addresses both hardware and software causes.

Step-by-Step Fix for Black Ink Not Printing

1. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

HP strongly recommends using original HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may not work reliably and can cause printhead issues.

2. Check Ink Levels and Print Settings

Even if the cartridge is full:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel and check estimated ink levels.
  • Make sure you’re not printing in grayscale or draft mode, which can affect black ink output.

3. Print a Diagnostic Page

This helps identify clogged nozzles or alignment issues.

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Print Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • Review the black ink test pattern. If it’s missing or faded, proceed to cleaning.

4. Clean the Printhead

Use the built-in cleaning tool:

  • Go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle and print another test page.
  • If needed, repeat up to 3 times, but avoid excessive cleaning to prevent ink waste.

5. Align the Printhead

Misalignment can cause poor ink output.

  • Go to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead.
  • Follow the prompts and print the alignment page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
