Hi @2Oldtimers

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly—it's genuinely frustrating to see a brand-new HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 stuck in an endless initialization loop, especially when you've already tried multiple hard resets.

You're absolutely right to expect better performance from a new device.

Here’s a structured recovery path that has helped others resolve similar behavior:

Step-by-Step Fix for Initialization Loop on HP OfficeJet Pro 8210

1. Perform a Full Power Drain

This clears residual charge and may reset the internal controller.

  • Turn off the printer using the power button (or by lifting the lid as you've described).
  • Disconnect the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power on the printer and observe behavior.

2. Update Firmware via USB

If the printer reaches the home screen briefly or responds to commands, you can attempt a firmware update:

  • Download the latest firmware from HP’s official page:
HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 Firmware & Drivers
  • Connect the printer to a Windows PC via USB.
  • Run the firmware updater—even if the screen remains stuck in initialization.

3. Check for Ink System Blockage

Sometimes the printer waits for ink system confirmation and gets stuck:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinsert all cartridges firmly.
  • Close the lid and observe whether the initialization completes.

4. Factory Reset via Control Panel (if accessible)

If the printer responds to button presses:

  • Tap Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm and allow the printer to reboot.

You’ve clearly done everything right, and it’s deeply disappointing to face this kind of issue with a new device. If you'd like help preparing the firmware USB or interpreting any signs of life from the printer, I’m here to guide you through it.

Let’s make sure your printer responds reliably and without frustration.

Hawks_Eye,

I appreciate the help Hawks_Eye. I tried all of the above for 2 hours several times to no avail. I was going to throw the plastic pile of garbage away. As a last ditch effort I did an internet search and AI confirmed what you wrote as a possible solution. What finally fixed the problem was a manual partial reset. Thanks!

Sincerely,

@2Oldtimers

I'm really sorry you had to wrestle with that for so long—it’s exhausting when a device refuses to cooperate no matter how many steps you try.

But I’m genuinely glad to hear the manual partial reset finally broke through the loop and brought your HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 back to life. That kind of persistence deserves credit.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help!

Thanks again for your confirmation, and we wish you an amazing day ahead! 😊
