Periodically my HP Office Jet Pro 9018 goes to sleep between print jobs and then when a new print job is sent from computer, the printer will not "wake up" and print. To be able to print I then need to manually disconnect the power cord, wait 30 seconds, and re-attach the power cord. The printer then works fine, even with a day or two pass before there's another print job. However, the issue returns intermittently. Suggestions to remedy this occasional issue?

Nothing more to add, Andy. The list of instructions were a bit much for me as a non-tech person. As a person who did not grow up with computers, I turned to one of my daughters via phone (she lives in another state) who is quite savvy (but more Windows that she uses and Mac which I use). As I said in my initial reply,I'm not sure what all she did. But I do know she had me do a hard shut down and restart with the plug in an outlet without a power strip/surge protector (it's usually plugged into one). Since her steps, I received a Mac OS Update to 11.6.7 and performed it. Printer is functioning okay since. Therefore, I cannot advise if all of the steps you laid out would be the fix. But please know I do appreciate your response to my issue.

I understand that the printer is not waking up from sleep mode.
To assist better:
- Did you make any changes to your printer?
- Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz? If yes, make sure the dual-band has different SSIDs for 2.4G and 5G networks.
While you respond to that, let's try these steps: Perform a ping test to check the connectivity
- Click Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
- type ping "IP address" and press enter
Wait until 10 pings have been performed and then press ctrl c on the keyboard and hit return.
The results will appear. Share the ping test results.
The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.
Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward "Bonjour packets". Bonjour locates devices such as printers, and other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

With assistance from daughter more knowledgeable than I, we seem to have fixed whatever the problem is/was. Don't think all the of the steps you recommended were used, but the printer seems to awaking as needed without a hard shut-down (pulling the plug). Did this 3 days ago and so far so good. Will let you know if it re-emerges. Thank you.
