I have the 577dw and just developed the same problem.  I've tried everything from factory resets to changing the type of connection from USB to ethernet with no luck.  Tech support could not have been less useful.  For the money that this machine costs the problems I have had are making me rethink buying another HP product.  Almost a year has gone by on this thread with no real answers.  I'll sacrafice speed of the printer for good customer service.  With this many people having these issues, you would think HP would have addressed this issue by now with something other than "try a different wall outlet".

Clearly there seems to be a problem with the most recent firmware.

I have asked Amazon to replace the printer. I will report with the new printer when it arrives.

Today I updated (via the web application) the sleep mode to "after 5 minutes" and also updated the auto-sleep for outside work hours. 5 hours later, printer is still responsive and printing the few pages we have asked.

Follow-up: after changing the sleep mode in the web application, problem seems to have disappeared.

Mayeb other affected users can try this procedure to see if it helps?

I have this same model, and I agree that this is not what you would expect from a printer this expensive.

Mine is connected through an ethernet connection.  If I DISCONNECT the ethernet cable before turning it on (plug it back in after it's booted up) I don't have the problem. Have you tried that?

We are having the exact same issues beginning in late October / early November. Came here out of frustration and much time lost trouble-shooting this. What web app are you referring to (which allows you to only aut-sleep within certain hours)?

HP Recommended

Just typ the IP-adress of the printer in your browser-urlbar. Than you can go into the settings of the printer and change the sleeptime (to max 2 hours).

I contacted HP today and they confirmed it's a bug in the firmware. They are working on an update, but they don't know how long it will take until the update is available...

I installed the latest firmware (MAHDWOPP1N001.1850B.00) which became available 12-12-18, and (unfortunately) I still have the same issue.  My 577dw still will not wake from sleep mode. The only way to bring it back is to unplugg it.

Will HP ever get this fixed?!!
