Another first time user please excuse mistakes. I am on Windows Vista service pack 2. I have not installed anything new recently. About a week ago I wenrt to print a page from computer and the following appeared on the printer screen and similar on my computer screen: 'Ink Cartridge Problem, The following ink cartridge(s) must be replaced.  It then shows all four cartridges. All cartridges are at least half full. I have used this make, 'Think',  since the originals run out with no previous problems. I have removed and replaced them with no effect I have telephoned HP who simply referred me to their (useless) diagnostics website or to a paid for helpline as my unit is out of warranty, As  I assume this fault  could be caused by  a HP update I am not prepared to go looking for repairs at my cost  as well as my time Please keep any solutions simple. (Should the solution to buy a new printer do not dare suggest a HP, my previous one unexplainedly leaked inks all over my desk). Many Thanks.

Hi Francheska

Many thanks for perservering with me, I did as you suggested  and tried the previous set of cartridges that I still had wrapped and in a drawer, and the printer told me I was trying to use previosly used and non standard cartridges. Iremoved them and put the 'current' ones back only to get 'change cartridge' notice again. I have now put in a new set, of my usual cartridges, and we have a working printer once again.

Many Thanks

Hi,

This document 6510 troubleshooting may help you resolve your issue. Resetting the printer should resolve the issue. The steps for this are in the attached document.

Whilst it is your choice to refill you should be aware that the print quality and reliability of your cartridge may not be as good as an HP original. There is some information on refilling  here.

Thanks,

Francheska

Many thanks for trying Francheska_E. Ihave run through solution but unfortunatrly it has had no effect at all. Since posting I have seen another question on a different model where a similar fault occured and he was told that 'a firmware update could not be reversed'. apparently HP sent him set of inks! It's begining to look like a new printer but thanks for trying.

I'm sorry that the reset didn't resolve your issue. May be before you get a new printer try another set of inks. The printer may be fine, the cartridges may be the problem.  Do you have any old ink cartridges? It won't matter if they are empty. The message that the printer displays should change to something like 'Previously used genunie HP cartridges installed' or you will get an empty message.

My wife refilled the ink cartridges, like she has done numerous times, but the color cartridges aren't printing. The black is printing just fine, but all the other colors aren't printing. She/we checked & the ink levels have gone down a little, so it appears the ink is going somewhere...just not on the paper.

We've tried every trouble-shooting thing that's on there & still not printing any color. What do we need to do? Have a repairman look at it? Take it back to Best Buy & have 1 of them look at it? We bought it exactly 4 years ago to the month & would hope it would last longer than that.

Any suggestions? Ideas?
