Help me.  I have installed all new ink jets.  The printer is giving an error message that one of the cartridges is expired and the printer only pprints in green.  I am about to throw it out of the window.  Yes.. all of the cartridges are HP product.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Have you tried making a copy and check if you have the same issue?

Cleaning the printhead and checking the cartridge may resolve this issue, let us try these steps:

Step 1: Clean the printhead

  1. On the printer control panel, press Setup.

  2. Press the down arrow button  to select Tools, and then press OK.

  3. Press the down arrow button  to select Clean Printhead, and then press OK.

    • If the print quality is acceptable, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, perform another printhead cleaning.

Step 2: Check the estimated ink levels

I understand you have installed all new HP ink cartridges, but we will have to check the functionality of the ink cartridges. If a color ink cartridge is empty, the printer prints in greyscale using black ink. If the black ink cartridge is empty, the printer prints in composite black using color ink. Composite black might not be as dark as regular printouts.

  1. On the printer control panel, press Setup.

  2. Press the down arrow button  to select Tools, and then press OK.

  3. Press the down arrow button  to select Display Ink Gauge, and then press OK.

The control panel displays estimated ink levels. The amount of color shown within a column represents how much ink remains in the ink cartridge of that color.

Step 3: Check print settings

  1. Open a document, click File, and then click Print.

    The Print window opens.

  2. Select the Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality menu.

  3. Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:

    • Paper type: If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, select that option.

    • Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality.

To save your settings for future print jobs, select Save in the Presets menu, and then name the new preset.

Step 4: Try to print/copy

Let me know how this goes.
