HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - B210a
macOS 12.0 Monterey

My HP Photosmart printer has been working fine for years but now after booting up and running/printing without issue when it goes to sleep it "blue screens" with code B85F 3054 and then goes to a white screen flashing.   I haven't tried anything but just reboot it and then it works for a few minutes-30 min before repeating the cycle.    After it restarts no issues with printing, but super annoying it doesn't stay online and functioning.

Hi @aodrouart

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you are trying to troubleshoot the HP R70 System Failure and resolve hardware-related issues with your HP laptop or desktop. Based on the previous steps and your message, I’ll continue to walk you through further troubleshooting and solutions. Here are the next steps to ensure your system gets back up and running:

4. Check for Hard Drive or SSD Issues:

A failed hard drive or SSD could be preventing the system from booting up correctly, and in the case of the HP R70 System failure, it might be the root cause. Here's what you can do to check for these issues:

Listen for unusual sounds: If you hear clicking, grinding, or other strange noises coming from the hard drive, it could be a sign of mechanical failure.

Run Diagnostics:

  • On HP laptops, you can access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to test the health of your storage devices (HDD or SSD).
  • To access it:
    1. Power off the laptop.
    2. Power it on and immediately press ESC or F2 repeatedly to enter the diagnostics screen.
    3. Select Hard Drive Test or Storage Test from the options.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to check if the drive is functioning correctly.

Check connections (for desktops): If you're using a desktop, make sure the SATA cables connecting the hard drive or SSD to the motherboard are properly secured. Sometimes loose connections can lead to boot issues.

Test with another drive (if possible): If you have another hard drive or SSD, try connecting it to the system to see if the laptop or desktop boots. This can confirm if the issue is with the primary storage device.

5. Run HP System Diagnostics:

To run a comprehensive diagnostic test for your system (including the processor, RAM, hard drive, and other components), follow these steps:

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Press the power button and immediately begin pressing ESC or F2 (for most HP systems) to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Select System Tests from the menu.
  4. Choose the tests you'd like to run:
    • Quick Test: A brief diagnostic to check if there are any major issues.
    • Extensive Test: A more thorough test that will check all the components in your system.
  5. Review the results: The diagnostic tool will display any errors related to hardware failures. If a specific component, like RAM, motherboard, or processor, is faulty, it will show an error code or description.

6. Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings:

A corrupted BIOS can cause issues with system boot and cause failure. To reset the BIOS to default settings:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Power it back on, and immediately press F10 to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  3. Inside the BIOS, look for the option to Restore Defaults or Reset to Default.
  4. Save and exit the BIOS. Your system will restart with the default BIOS settings, which might fix any configuration-related issues.

7. External Monitor Check (For Display Issues):

If the system seems to be turning on but there’s no display, the issue may be related to the laptop's screen or the graphics card. To rule this out:

  1. Connect an external monitor (via HDMI or VGA, depending on your laptop/desktop).
  2. If the external monitor displays correctly, your internal screen or its connections could be faulty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi -

This response doesn't seem relevant to an HP Printer.

Hi @aodrouart,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The B85F 3054 error you're encountering on your HP Photosmart printer typically indicates an issue with the printer's internal components, often related to a hardware failure or communication issue between the printer's hardware and software. This error can occur for various reasons, including printer misconfigurations, firmware issues, or even problems with the printhead or other internal parts.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve the B85F 3054 error on your HP Photosmart printer:

1. Turn Off and Restart the Printer

  • Power cycle the printer by turning it off and unplugging it from the electrical outlet for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • This will reset any temporary issues and may resolve the error if it’s a minor glitch.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Open the printer’s paper tray and check for any paper jams or other obstructions in the path.
  • Also, check inside the printer where the ink cartridges and printhead are located. Clear any debris, small pieces of paper, or foreign objects.
  • Carefully remove any visible paper jams, as this can trigger error codes.

3. Inspect the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  • Remove and reseat the ink cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Sometimes, the error can occur if a cartridge is improperly placed.
  • If your printer has a removable printhead, try removing it carefully and cleaning the electrical contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth. Reinsert the printhead and check for the error again.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • If you have access to the internet and your printer is connected to Wi-Fi or a computer, check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer model. Firmware bugs can sometimes cause issues like the B85F 3054 error.
  • You can visit the HP Support website and search for the latest firmware for your model (HP Photosmart), or you may find an option to update via the printer's control panel if it’s accessible.

5. Check the Printer’s Display for Additional Messages

  • Some HP printers provide additional error details on the LCD screen or via error codes. If there is a secondary code or message shown, make sure to take note of it, as it can help pinpoint the specific issue.

6. Factory Reset the Printer

If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings to the default configuration, and it might clear out any configuration errors causing the issue. Here's how to do it:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the # and 6 buttons on the printer’s control panel simultaneously.
  • While holding the buttons, turn the printer on.
  • Continue holding the buttons until the printer displays a reset message or shows signs of resetting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
