HP Inkjet 1515
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Everyone

I recently formatted my computer and upgraded to windows 10.

I downloaded the new software from the HP website, and installed it. But it does not want to detect my printer.

The computer detects the printer, it is available under the device manager, but it says unknown device.

I have tried another cable, and all my usb ports.

Any help would be appreciated!

Greetings @Lucien2

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to install the printer on your Windows 10 computer, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Are you able to make a copy on the printer?

Request you uninstall the printer from your computer by following the procedure mentioned below.

Restart your computer.

Install the latest full feature software from www.hp.com/drivers

Power ON the printer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect/power on the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.

Hi Chimney_83

Thank you so much for responding

I did everything as you stated, step by step.

But it still does not work, When I install the printer software, and it promts for the printer. I will insert the cable, and the software picks it up, but then says failed to connect, check cable.

Please see images attached

I see that yu were interacting with @Chimney_83. I'd like to help :).

Try with the different cable and check if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, this issue may require one to one interaction with the HP Phone Support.

I suggest that you contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

You have a good day ahead.

Hi @sandytechy20

Thank you for the reply

I tried the printer with the same cable on my laptop. And it installed easily. With no problems.

So the problem lies with my computer. Not sure why.

Thanks for the reply, glad to hear that the printer is working fine with the notebook.

Recommend you remove all the settings on the computer, including the temp files as suggested earlier and install the printer using Windows built-in drivers. Click here for assistance.

Let me know if this helped.
