If doing a full factory reset there is a problem in that you may be asked to insert the original setup cartridges. It is likely that you do not have them and HP does not sell setup cartridges. I advise against the full reset unless you have the original setup cartridges and they are full of ink.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
I have been trying to access the 'secret menu' all day, but because my menu screen is 'frozen' reading 'cartridge problem' it does not allow me to get to the secret menu or any other menu. So out of desperation, I was looking for a full factory reset in large part to hopefully 'un-freeze' the menu screen. But yes, you are correct, I do not have the original ink cartridges, so I now at am a complete loss.
If you have any other ideas, I'd appreciate them. Thanks again for your reply.

If the screen is totally frozen that menu trick will not work anyway.
Maybe this video shows what to do

I looked around and found this info about the setup cartridges
