@CliveRH, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-

Remove the ink cartridges and reset the printer

  1. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  6. Turn the printer on.

  7. Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

  8. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration or alignment page, do so.

If the error message persists, continue to the next step.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.

To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi  TEJ1602

Thanks for the suggested steps below.

Unfortunately I cant even get through your suggested "Step 1 - Remove the printer cartridges".  Did try Steps 3 to 6 however but without success.

The printer is unresponsive during and after the start sequence which every time ends with flashing lights that I described below.  Thus during the start-up time (when normally you would hear the printer working through the sequence of cartridges being registered, jets being wiped and other internal movements) there is no apparent movement heard inside the machine.  Similarly even when I open the printer (with lights flashing) to access the cartridges (when normally the printer cartridge carriage would move out of its storage location to expose the cartridges) there is no carriage movement occurring, hence I cannot  "Remove the printer cartridges"

Any other suggestions would be welcome as I am struggling without a working printer / scanner presently.

Regards

CliveRH
