Hi @Beth_Hayden1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with a cartridge jam right after replacing your ink. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP printer:

Turn Off the Printer: First, turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. This can help reset the system and clear minor errors.

Open Printer Access Door: Open the access door where the ink cartridges are located. Ensure you do it slowly and gently to avoid any mechanical damage.

Check for Obstructions: Look for any visible obstructions in the cartridge pathway. Sometimes, bits of paper, packing material, or even dust can block the cartridge's movement.

Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the ink cartridge and reinsert it. Make sure it is installed correctly according to the instructions in your printer’s manual. It should click into place without requiring excessive force.

Clean the Cartridge and Carriage Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or ink residue on the contacts can cause detection issues. Use a clean, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the contacts in the carriage inside the printer.

Check the Carriage for Smooth Movement: Gently move the carriage left and right to check if it moves smoothly. If it’s stuck, it might indicate a mechanical issue.

Close Everything and Restart: Once you’ve checked and adjusted everything, close all open doors and panels. Reconnect your printer to the power source and turn it on.

Run a Self-Diagnostic Test: If your printer has a maintenance or self-diagnostic function (usually accessible through the printer’s menu or software on your computer), run it to check if there are any other errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
