HP Printer "in use" but not printing
04-03-2021 01:46 PM

I'm really frustrated with my brand new HP Deskjet printer. It worked for about a week without any issues. Lately I've had to restart the whole printer just to get it to print one sheet. After that it needs to be restarted again. The restart method isn't even working anymore. When I go to print, it says "printer is in use" but does nothing. I've deleted and readded the printer at least 10 times. Finally thought I fixed it, but it stopped halfway through ONE printing job. Couldn't even get out a full sheet. This was an investment for a business that I rely on printing for and everything is impossible with these issues.

@GOODEA, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
To assist you better,
- Which application are you trying to print from?
- Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
- How is the printer connected to the Mac? If wireless, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
-
Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.
- Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Try making a standalone copy and check if that prints fine. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Install the printer using th AirPrint driver as shown in this document and try printing - Printing with Apple AirPrint (Mac)
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
