My C6280 printer is out of warranty; I hope someone can help. The scan portion wouldn't work, so I turned off the printer. After a minute I tried to turn it back on, and it would not turn on. However, the orange "I" (exclamation point) was on and blinking. After unplugging, replugging, etc. the printer still won't turn on, but the orange light is on and steady. Power to the printer does not seem to be the issue. Can anyone help?

Hi @jeanne44,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your HP Photosmart C6280 printer's orange exclamation point light is on and steady, and the printer won't turn on even though it has power, it indicates a hardware issue that is preventing the printer from powering up correctly. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem:
Power Reset:
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and plug it back into the power outlet.
- Try turning on the printer.
Check Power Supply:
- Ensure that the power cord and power adapter are properly connected.
- Check if the power outlet is working by plugging in another device.
- Use a different power outlet to rule out outlet issues.
Inspect for Hardware Issues:
- Open the printer cover and check for any visible paper jams, stuck carriage, or obstructions.
- Ensure that all internal components (like the ink cartridges) are properly seated.
Remove External Devices:
- If there are any USB devices or memory cards connected to the printer, disconnect them and try to power on the printer again.
Check for Component Failures:
- If the orange exclamation light remains on steadily, it can sometimes indicate a problem with the printer’s internal hardware, such as the power supply unit, control panel, or mainboard.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @jeanne44,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Perform a Hard Reset (if applicable):
- Look for a reset button or a reset pinhole on the printer (refer to the printer's manual).
- Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds, then release and try powering on the printer again.
Service Mode (if possible):
- Some printers can enter a service or diagnostic mode which might help clear errors. For the C6280, there is usually a combination of button presses that can trigger this mode (e.g., holding down the "Cancel" and "OK" buttons while powering on).
- Note: This should be done with caution as incorrect sequences might lead to further complications.
Inspect for Internal Damage:
- If comfortable, you can open the printer casing to look for any visible damage, burnt smells, or loose connections. If there’s obvious damage, a component replacement or professional repair might be necessary.
Given that the printer is out of warranty, repairs might not be cost-effective compared to replacing the printer, especially if a critical component like the mainboard is damaged. However, the above steps should help determine whether the issue is something easily fixable.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Elohi_NR,
Thank you for your suggestions re my HPC6280 computer not turning on, while the orange light is steady on. I have tried all your advice, and unfortunately, the problem is not resolved. I did find what looked like a reset button on the right side next to the photo card slots. Inserting a paper clip didn't work. I also cannot find any mention of a reset button in the extensive manual I found online.
The non-restarting may be due to the non-HP ink used. HP does not sell the 02 cartridges any longer, so I have been using off-brand replacements. Perhaps upon pushing the power button, the printer recognized off-brand ink and won't start? I tried removing all the ink cartridges and pushing the power button, to no avail. The power simply feels dead, as if there is no connection whatsoever, yet there must be power to keep the orange light on. I removed the control panel cover, but cannot see if the power button is actually making contact. It feels quite loose. If you have any other ideas, I welcome them.
